Forgive one another
Scripture: John 21:15-19,
Before we talk about chapter 21, we have to understand the book of John.
What is the purpose of this book?
John 20:31, “These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”
Main theme in book of John is “Believe” * 98 times.
I believe that key word is “believing”, “ Believing in Jesus name, you have life.” Amen.
“I am the way and the truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
Let us move on chapter 21.
This chapter tells how Jesus commissioned Peter.
Perhaps Peter needs special encouragement after his denial.
He may have felt completely worthless.
This scene is the Sea of Tiberias. Let us see, Verse 4, “Early in the Morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. Verse 5, “He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?” “No,” they answered. Obviously, life without Jesus in their life, they caught “Nothing.”
We need Jesus in our daily life just being fruitful.
Without Jesus, our life got ‘ Nothing.’
Verse 6, “ He said, ‘ Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.’ throw your net on the right side of the net” Verse 11, “ It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn.”
à
God gives you direction. when you follow it, It lead to abundant life.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” They knew it was the Lord. Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish.
Jesus satisfied physical need first. When you come to Jesus, you will be fed, Fed good.
Jesus did not start his conversation, “ Peter , you denied three times…. Three times….”
Come and eat, bread and fish.
Let us see verse 15, “When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?”
Jesus asked peter three times if he loved him. The first time Jesus said, “ Do you truly love ( in Greek: agape: volitional, self-sacrificial love) me more than these?
The Second time, Jesus focused on Peter alone and still used the word translated into Greek, phileo ( signifying affection, affinity, or brotherly love) and asked, in effect, “ Are you even my friend?” Each time Peter responded with the word translated into Greek as phileo. Jesus does not settle for quick, superficial answers. He has a way of getting to the heart of the matter.
Peter had to face his true feelings and motives when Jesus confronted him. How would you respond if Jesus asked you, “Do you truly love me? Do you really love me? Are you even my friend?”
So What?
What change fisherman to Pope/ Evangelist.
He received forgiveness from the Lord.
1. Forgive yourself
2. Forgive others
This is forgiveness.
1. Forgiveness is decision. Push reset button.
Jesus Christ did not mention Peter’s betray, denial. He just forgave Peter’s sin.
Matthew 5:48, “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
Philippians 2 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
2. It is more like tongue discipline not Alzheimer. You might never forget, but, God heals you.
Psalm 103:12
as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
Isaiah 1:20,
“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord.
“Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.
3. It is process. Take time.
Jesus did not give up on Peter. After Peter received pardon, Peter changed.
4. The reason for forgiving each others, because, Jesus Christ forgave me. Forgive each other just like Jesus.
In closing.
Do you love Jesus? Feed my sheep.
Who is your sheep?
James 2:14-16, “Faith and Deeds
14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?
Real test is willingness to serve him, just because he forgave me.
Real test is to serve others because Jesus.
Real test is to forgive myself because Jesus. Sometimes, we have high expectation about us.
I should be there. I should have certain house, life style.
