5 things Isaiah saw (Isaiah 6:1~13)
1. In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the sanctuary. 2 Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one cried to another and said:
“Holy, holy, holy is
the Lord
of hosts;
The whole earth is full of His glory!”
4 And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.
5 So
I said: “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because
I am a man of unclean lips,
And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips;
For my eyes have seen the King, The Lord of hosts.”
6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth with it, and said:
“Behold, this has
touched your lips;
Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin purged.”
8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”
9 And
He said, “Go, and tell this people: ‘Keep on hearing, but do not understand;
Keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’
10 “Make
the heart of this people dull, And their ears heavy, And shut their eyes;
Lest they see with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And
understand with their heart, And return and be healed.”
11 Then I said, “Lord, how long?”
And He answered: “Until
the cities are laid waste and without inhabitant,
The houses are without a man, The land is utterly desolate,
12 The
Lord has removed men far
away, And the forsaken places are many in the midst of the land. 13 But
yet a tenth will be in it, and will return and be for consuming, as a
terebinth tree or as an oak, whose stump remains when it is cut down. So
the holy seed shall be its stump.”
Intro)
Prophet Isaiah was in era of King Uzziah. His prophecy work was in B.C 742, which is about 2740 years ago, and he was there 742 years ago before Jesus Christ came to the land. Isaiah gave prophecy about Jesus precisely. The era Isaiah was in was pretty tough, he helped the kingdom when it was in crisis for 52 years, but the king ended dying from the illness. Citizens and the safety of nation were in danger, so Isaiah went up to Jerusalem sanctuary and prayed. While he was praying he saw mysterious visions. What was the vision he saw? It says he saw 5 visions. Let’s check it out.
Body)
He said he saw 5 visions.
Those 5 are like this 1. He saw Jesus on the right hand side of the thrown at the sanctuary. 2. He saw angels praising at the sanctuary. 3. Saw his own sins at the sanctuary. 4. Saw the mission that he has to carry. 5. Saw the hope in the future.
1. He saw Jesus on the right hand side of the thrown at the sanctuary
Right after king Uzziah died, people of Israel were facing crisis in politic and economy and they were in fear. Our eyes saw only materials, but Isaiah’s eyes were different. He saw spiritual things. In 2 Kings 6:8~23 has something that can relate to Isaiah’s era in era of Elisha.
8 Now the king of Syria was making war against Israel; and he consulted with his servants, saying, “My camp will be in such and such a place.” 9 And the man of God sent to the king of Israel, saying, “Beware that you do not pass this place, for the Syrians are coming down there.” 10 Then the king of Israel sent someone to the place of which the man of God had told him. Thus he warned him, and he was watchful there, not just once or twice.
11 Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was greatly troubled by this thing; and he called his servants and said to them, “Will you not show me which of us is for the king of Israel?”
12 And one of his servants said, “None, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom.”
13 So he said, “Go and see where he is, that I may send and get him.”
And it was told him, saying, “Surely he is in Dothan.”
14 Therefore he sent horses and chariots and a great army there, and they came by night and surrounded the city. 15 And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?”
16 So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 17 And Elisha prayed, and said, “Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 18 So when the Syrians came down to him, Elisha prayed to the Lord, and said, “Strike this people, I pray, with blindness.” And He struck them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.
19 Now Elisha said to them, “This is not the way, nor is this the city. Follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom you seek.” But he led them to Samaria.
20 So it was, when they had come to Samaria, that Elisha said, “Lord, open the eyes of these men, that they may see.” And the Lord opened their eyes, and they saw; and there they were, inside Samaria!(Samaria is 12.5 miles from Dothan)
21 Now when the king of Israel saw them, he said to Elisha, “My father, shall I kill them? Shall I kill them?”
22 But he answered, “You shall not kill them. Would you kill those whom you have taken captive with your sword and your bow? Set food and water before them, that they may eat and drink and go to their master.” 23 Then he prepared a great feast for them; and after they ate and drank, he sent them away and they went to their master. So the bands of Syrian raiders came no more into the land of Israel.
When
we are in Holy spirit like Elisha our spiritual vision will open. Author of
Psalm says in 121:1-2, ‘I will lift up my eyes to the hills—
From whence comes my help?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.’ And saw Jehovah’s help. What do your eyes see now?
2. He saw angels praising at the sanctuary. (2~4)
Isaiah saw angels serving and praising God. In other word he saw seraphims. They are like royal guards. They had harmony and very passionate. When we praise our God we need to connect more to our spirit and know the lyrics. If then, God will receive more glory and it will be more power and grace.
.
3. Saw his own sins at the sanctuary. (5~7)
In here Isaiah found his sins clearly. What is sanctuary? It is where God is breathing and living.
In the morning when we wake up and fold our blanket, sunlight comes through and we could see tiny dusts all over the place, then we finally notice how many of dust we have.
Even today that is the reason why we need to go to God’s sanctuary, because we will finally get to see what we are missing in our lives, such as sins, desire, and evil etc. When we come to the church service it is not some sort of performance, it has to be something we really find our spiritual weakness and illness to be cured in God.
Therefore, Isaiah realized how his lips have been corrupted with sins. one of seraphim came and brought charcoal and put in on his lips and forgave his sins. Indeed, when we realize that we are sinner and repent the sins God will forgive us with his grace. We need to know ourselves again in front of God. Sometimes just knowing myself is better than finding new things in other things.
4. Saw the mission that he has to carry. (8)
When God was said ‘Now who will be sent to work for us?” and Isaiah said it with courage ‘I’m here my Lord, send me.” Why God had trouble finding a prophet and said this thing? It is because the era of it was hard, so none were really up to face the hardships. Sometimes we need to leave our life to God. Time to time it is lonely and dangerous path, but that is God’s way. He wants us to send us to spread God’s word. Nor they listen or accept. We need to have faith to take the challenge.
5. Saw the hope in the future (9~13)
Lastly, Isaiah saw Israel’s despair and hope. Israel had to ruin due to its own sin, but he
saw hope of recovery. In today’s verse 13 says, 13 But
yet a tenth will be in it,
And will return and be for consuming,
As a terebinth tree or as an oak,
Whose stump remains when it is cut down.
So the holy seed shall be its stump.”
Israel was corrupted for long from idolatry and corrupted leader’s greed. Later on God even said if there is 1 righteous man he wouldn’t destroy them. At the end they fall and most of them were killed and tortured in B.C 586. Their history was like bleak at that time, but one started new seed of generation and that was a hope that Isaiah saw.
Con)
What was that seed? It is Jesus the Messiah. Isaiah knew mankind will fall due to their sins that they committed, but he saw Jesus in his vision that will save mankind. That was a hope. Hope for all kind. Let’s have this seeds in your heart. Hallelujah.
