Three phases of faith to New Year (Colossian 3:12~15)

 

 

12    그러므로 너희는 하나님이 택하사 거룩하고 사랑 받는 자처럼 긍휼과 자비와 겸손과 온유와 오래 참음을 옷 입고 

12Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

13    누가 누구에게 불만이 있거든 서로 용납하여 피차 용서하되 주께서 너희를 용서하신 것 같이 너희도 그리하고

13. Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. 

14    이 모든 것 위에 사랑을 더하라 이는 온전하게 매는 띠니라 

 14.And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.  

15    그리스도의 평강이 너희 마음을 주장하게 하라 너희는 평강을 위하여 한 몸으로 부르심을 받았나니 너희는 또한 감사하는 자가 되라 

15.And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

서론)

 1. Brothers and sister you did endure well this year. It was rough, regretful, hard and hurtful for some one. However we overcome with patience and wisdom. We should call our names and say “(your name) Good Job! Well Done! Good try! It was amazing! Let’s push it more! <3”

 

We all are winner of 2018. Keeping good faith in this sinful world was the best thing you did this year.

 

2. of course sometime it feels so fast that this year is almost over when it felt like just a few months. However we cannot go back in time and we should not obsess with it but look back and re think about our plans and ourselves. So, that we do not make same mistake again.

I want to share about three phases of faith before we go to the next year. If you don’t care about these phases you might get 2019 but it will be hard to live your life as children of God or disciples of Jesus. 

 

A) Be Thankful.

Like in today’s scripture, Paul said “be ye thankful.”

Some people think there are no reasons to be thankful for, but that is not true. All life among here has something to be thankful. You just have not realized yet. But why should we be thankful? It is response to God’s blessing and the plate/bowl that can receive the blessing which is on the way.

Proverbs 30:15 says” The horseleech hath two daughters, crying, “Give, give!” There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things that say not, “It is enough”:” Horseleech here was metaphor for person who doesn’t stop asking for something and never satisfied. Would you want to provide for the person like such?

 Even with God’s amazing blessings, some people just do not satisfy. Why would God bless someone always complain and never satisfy? Blessing goes to someone whom will be thankful and realize their blessings.

Disciple Paul says be thankful! We get free air, sun light, rain and lovely church family for free from God. Before this year ends, make sure to express your thankfulness to your family, neighbor, friends and most importantly to our God who provides. Then your next year will be blessed even more.

 

B) Forgive

Second phase that we need to go through is forgiveness. Brothers and sisters forgive. Paul says in today’s scripture. “Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.”

One of the most important blessings from God is forgiveness. We are saved solely because God forgave us and for Justifying grace. So forgiving is also our duty because God who forgave us wants us to forgive each other.

There was a story from news goes like a bad son killed her mother by stabbing her. But she told her son change your close before you go so that you don’t get caught by police. I love you and forgive you. Love of mother, love of God.

Anything or anybody made you mad? Stressed? Let them go with the river of blessing. If it was work forget! If it was a person forgive! Not forgiving is same as confine yourself in the jail full with anger. People who won’t forgive would never advance to the new life. Forgive before this year ends like Jesus forgave us we should do the same in Jesus name.

 

C) Hope

Third Phase is hope.

Be hopeful, do not give up always have a hope. Faith doesn’t stop at believing that you are saved faith also mean that you believe that God will provide and never abandon us. He is faithful and He is almighty.

Brothers and Sisters man/women of faith never found themselves in despair. Life can be challenging but we have hope because God is with us. We always can have a hope in most desperate situations.

Jeremiah also did not lose hope when he lost his wife and children. Lamentations 3:20~26 says.

²⁰ My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me.

²¹ This I recall to my mind; therefore have I hope:

²² It is through the Lord’S mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not.

²³ They are new every morning; great is Thy faithfulness.

²⁴ “The Lord is my portion,” saith my soul, “Therefore will I hope in Him.”

²⁵ The Lord is good unto them that wait for Him, to the soul that seeketh Him.

²⁶ It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.

Jeremiah knew their sin will lead them to death and fall. But they did not and he realized that the reason is God. Then he praises the Lord who saved them. He sees the hope for tomorrow even in most desperate situation. Faith is having hope no matter what the reality is.

 

Brothers and sisters, even though last year was rough please do not lose your hope. Endure little more new day New Year will upon us and is the new opportunity for us. Tomorrow sun will rise again. Wind will blow! Hallelujah!

 

Conclusion)

We only have two days until the New Year. If you were not thankful, recover your heart. If you did not forgive someone, forgive. Lastly if you are crushed by despair recover your hope in Jesus’ goodness. Old things will pass and new things will come. Pass these three phases and you will be able to advance towards 2019 in Jesus name.
