God among nature (psalms104:9∼18 )
Intro)
There are 150
chapters in Psalms and most of their titles tell us of the author or theme of
the song. However, there are 34 chapters without titles including today’s chapter.
Chapter 103 was written by King David and Chapter 104 is smoothly connected to
103 so it seems like the author is David. Chapter 104 is a beautiful song.
10 He sendeth the springs into the
valleys, which run among the hills.
11 They give drink to every beast of the field: the wild asses quench their thirst.
12 By them shall the fowls of the heaven have their habitation, which sing among the branches.
Such a beautiful verses. Anyways we there are three things we can learn from the chapter 104.
Body)
A. First, it helps realize how beautiful His creations are.
This Chapter is conversion of Genesis chapter 1 to poem. So when you read today’s chapter alongside with Genesis it doubles up the blessing.
The song starts with light and ends with Human. In between those many of God’s creations appears in the verse. The sequence of creations in the song is parallel to what is written in Genesis. Light, sky, earth, sea, animals, birds, moon, sun and human.
David’s another song Psalms 19 shows God’s glory again “The
heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.."
Hymn 78
“This is My Father's
World" This is my Father's world:
I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas--
His hand the wonders wrought.”
That is right God’s creations are evidence of God’s wonder and Glory.
Of course the best of his creation is Human so we
need to glorify God through us. Other people should see God’s glory
through us more than they amazed by nature. If not we need to try hard and
better ourselves in Christ to show God’s glory through
us. Otherwise we would be less than other creations.
B. Secondly, God protects us right now with his love.
After He created universe he never said “I don’t care.” He always has been taking care of
this universe. Some calls this continued creation. This is another evidence of
God. He is giving a lot to his creations. For instance life, let us read verse
29 " Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou
takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.",
He also provides food, verse 11,14,21 and 28 shows us how he provide drinks and
food to various creatures in the world both on the ground and in the water. God
also gives us human food.
Let’s try simple reasoning. If God feeds his creations and if we are His favorite then he must provide us with best things. Am I right? I hope you believe this.
Also he provides shelter to His creations. He provided tree branches near a pond for birds.
He gave mountains to mountain goats. He gave rocks for raccoons. He gave caves for lions. Do you have place to live? If not believe that God will provide you a shelter.
Chapter
also says that God gives us work and rest. Verse 20~23 says creatures work
through night and rest under daylight. It would be reversed for us human. Resting
is really important for us to stay healthy. We are more precious than animals
or fish believe that God will provide us with better things. It is really
important that we ask God what we need. Look verse 21, Lions asking God for
foods. 27 say creatures in the ocean asking Him to feed. If you have God ask if
you do not ask it would be like waiting something to drink right next to a
wall.
A pastor who is blind was building church. Most of his congregations were poor and blind. So building a church was really challenging for him. His health became weary so he took leave and went to the ocean to rest. one day he was walking along the beach. At the beach, children were building sand castle. And singing the song “Toad, Toad give us new house will give you old house.” When the pastor heard this song he was challenged. “I treated God less than a toad. Why didn’t I ask God for help?” He was encouraged again and came back to Seoul and finished his church which is ‘New Light Blind Church.”
Verse 14 tells us that God grows vegetable and foods. Verse 15 says God gives us wine and food that makes our heart strong.
Believe that God is taking care of us in detail and listens to us so ask hard.
Finally, we need to realize our responsibility as a God’s creation.
Verse 104 is like symphony of life in forest of June. Also when we hear it with
our spirit we could hear God’s love song. This symphony
is majestic, clouds become God’s floats, Wind become his wing and fire become
God’s work. At verse 7 we would hear loud drum “At thy rebuke they
fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away.” And it will quite down around
verse 16 and 17 “Where the birds make
their nests: as for the stork, the fir trees are her house.”
Conclusion)
Well. God picked us
as the conductor for this symphony. Genesis 1:26 says " And
God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have
dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the
cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth
upon the earth."
However, are we doing it right? Same music can play differently depending on
the conductors. We are turning this beautiful music into a noise. Our world is
screaming. We need to recover its original tune.
Verse 31 says " The glory of the Lord shall endure for ever: the Lord shall rejoice in his works."
Our Job as a saved Christians is continuing God’s glory, make God rejoice. We need to be salt and light in this world. We should not live for the bread we need to live for the glory of God. To do that you need to take care of your health and spirit.
I hope and pray in this week, listen to God in nature. Be humble in the universe, find God’s glory. Find God who works in each four seasons. Gain new strength. Take care of your mission from God and win.
