Mother who creates history (Exo 2:1-10)

¹And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.

² And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.

³ And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink.

⁴ And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him.

⁵ And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river's side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it.

⁶ And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews' children.

⁷ Then said his sister to Pharaoh's daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?

⁸ And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child's mother.

⁹ And Pharaoh's daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the women took the child, and nursed it.

¹⁰ And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.

 

In today’s scripture mother if Moses was a mother who created new history of God. By Moses’ mother’s action let us think about the faith us parents should have.

1. Knowing how precious and miracles the life is. 

 

Hebrew 11:23 says “By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment.”

 

When Moses was born Israelites were in Egypt for more than 400 years. They suffered through hate and discrimination against them.

 

They could not kill the baby which is a life that God gave to them. So they hid the baby and raise him for three month.

 

1. They saved life by faith.

Then a miracle happened. Moses mother became his nanny which was God’s work, and Moses mother’s history of faith and prayers. We have to believe that God’s children will be raised by God.

We have to remember what bible said. “Teach your children what is right, then they will not forget when they are grown.”

Never channel your anger from elsewhere towards your child.

 

Carl Rogers who is also known as God father of counselors talked about three traits that great parents should have. 

1. Unconditional Positive Regard.
   Dr. Jung So Young said accept your child with positively and respectively regardless of their intelligence and appearance.

2. 2) Congruence/Genuineness.

Parents should have consistence mind and behavior.
3) Empathic Understanding
If your children are hurt and in pain, parents should be able to have empathy while remaining objectively.

In fact, most important skill as a parent is anger management.

We have to realize anger does not come naturally but we initiate it. We can get angry but project that anger to someone is our choice. If you get mad more often toward particular kid amongst your children in same situation, then it is you who are failing to manage your anger.

 

1. Teach your children to have patriotism.

 

Moses’ mother thought fame and fortune without God is worthless. Also, she thought living selfish life that do not care about their people is wicked. So, she taught Moses to not to forget about God and his people.

 

Independence activist Jung Geun Ahn’s mother’s lesson is alive in Korean history. While his son is in the prison, she wrote a letter to him.

Conclusion)

We need to teach our children not only love for God but also love for your country, people and humanity. Then guide them to live their life right way in Jesus.
