Young
men coming before God
Luke 7:11-17
11 And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and
many of his disciples went with him, and much people.
12 Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man
carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people
of the city was with her.
13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep
not.
14 And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he
said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.
15 And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his
mother.
16 And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great
prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.
17 And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judaea, and throughout all
the region round about.
Psalms 110:3 Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.
The privilege that the youth have is that they have spirit of
trying over and over again.
Hunai Yukio who is C.E.O of Hunai complete lab (management consulting company)
in Japan said “Failure is not a shame, not even trying is shame. People who
want to try new things are the young, but age doesn’t matter.” Youth have the
right and obligation for dreaming and trying.
There are 4 must have attitudes (VACS) for the people who have visions. Persons
who have dreams shouldn’t be afraid to do adventure, and challenge themselves.
And anyone who pursues their dream must know there are sacrifices to be made in
the process. Faith is your courage within your soul for the adventures you
endure to reach your dream. If young people don't have the spirit to challenge
themselves then they are giving up.
Challenging and trying for your dream is a beautiful thing. That is why young
people are beautiful because they have that sprit in them.
Psalms 110:3 Said “Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the
beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy
youth.”
This is a precious message.
Womb of the morning (Dawn) is time of hope and blessing. Hosea 14:5 says “I
will be as the dew unto Israel: he shall grow as the lily, and cast forth his
roots as Lebanon.”
When I visited the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt in 2005, a tour guide told me
“There is no rainfall in this area.” However there are not many, but still I
can see some flowers, trees, and grass. This is because of the dew that emerges
every morning.
For this dry land, the value of dew is uncountable. The Bible says young people
are like dew, so young people should be graceful.
The Church of God should be filled with young and lively people.
In today’s text Jesus felt sorry for the young man who was dead and told him to
wake up. A young person dying is a tragic thing. So how should young people
live? They need to make their way back to Jesus, and his words. So what can
young people do to live by the bible?
First of all, they need to wear a "holy cloth".
In the first half of Psalms 110:3 says “Thy people shall be willing in the day
of thy power, in the beauties of holiness…” For youth to be alive they need to
wear cloth of holiness. Cloth can be interpreted as "attitude". Youth
with holy minds are alive. Max Rukeido said cloth is personality. Christians’
cloth are Christians’ symbol of life, and expression for faith.
Young people’s cloth have to be clean and holy. The Bible wants chief priests
to wear clean clothes. Now as a believer we are all chief priests like a king.
Ecclesiastes 9:8 says “8 Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head
lack no ointment.” White means holy and clean in bible.
Romans chapter 13:14 says “But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not
provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof.” Which means we need to
project Jesus Christ through our activities.
Haggai 2:12 says “If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with
his skirt do touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be
holy? And the priests answered and said, No.” We have to separate our cloth
from dirty world.
Psalm 119:9 says “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed
thereto according to thy word.” We have to follow his way too, not only just
listen to what He saying.
Secondly, we need to show our devotion with joy
What do young people do with their holy cloth? They join God. With the holy cloth
on, all we can do is holy works. Dedicate yourself to God with joy. God never
takes dirty things, God only accepts holy and clean things.
King David had desire to build a temple for God, but God didn’t let him because
David shed too many blood on his hand.
Young people! Admit that your life is on the hand of God, deny yourself and
admit God’s control. Your time, money, and everything belongs to God.
Romans 12:1 apostle Paul said “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the
mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy,
acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”
Your reasonable service, can also substitute by reasonable offering. Who offer
one’s life and body is person who praise God. Praise God (service) is way of
devotion. Your body will be stronger as you offer your body for the church.
Don’t hesitate to serving God.
Dr. Hwang Su Kwan in Korea said “The milk deliverer is healthier than who
drinks milk.”
Third, Come before Jesus.
You want to offer, and serve God but you don’t have nothing? You can always do.
Back then when Korean was poor, people came to church and offer a day for
volunteer work for church.
2 Corinthians 8:12 says. “For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted
according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.”
If you want to there are many ways to offer yourself to God. Some say they have
nothing, others will do, these people, God doesn’t like how they think. Youth
is quick.
In lyric of Hymn 302 goes like this “Give God precious thing, try your best
when you are young.” I hope you all to be a person who gives everything to God.
So young people who are not coming to God, where they go? Bar, club, Casino, or
they can hang out with bad friends. We need to coming before God.
Ecclesiastes 11:9 warns you “Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy
heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart,
and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God
will bring thee into judgment.” In other word, if you follow your body’s
desire, you will be judged by God.
This world is getting hard to come before God, especially for the young people.
They have many places to go other than church. But even if so…come before God
should be the most exciting thing, this is key of success, and way of save your
soul.
According to scientific statistic, having a day break in a week is better for
your brain development, and to improve learning skill. Person who take a break
on sun day can be smarter than person who study whole week! Keep Sunday is the
secret why Jewish people take all the Novel award. Having Sunday break is good
for both body and brain why that is? Because God made so.
Conclusion
When Jesus told “Wake up young man.” He woke up. Dead can be revived when Jesus
allows. If God’s word, Jesus is with you whoever living miserable life, dead
life can be revival!
I hope our youth group to be like morning dew, who wear holy cloth, dedicated
to God, and come before God so our church, nation, and family would be filled
with hope.
