서론)

1. 오늘 본문은 사도 바울이 빌립보 지역에 개척한 교회에 대한 편지의 말미에 있는 결론부입니다. 빌립보(Philippi)는 ‘마게도냐의 첫 성이요, 또 로마의 식민지’라고 소개합니다.(행 16:12). 이곳은 그리스의 북부지역으로써 유럽과 아시아를 연결하는 중요한 통로 중의 하나였으며, 전략상으로도 마게도냐 지방의 제일로 손꼽히는 도시입니다. 따라서 마게도냐 지역의 첫 관문인 빌립보에서의 복음 전파와 교회 개척은 그리스 지역의 복음화에 대한 첫 시발점이요, 유럽의 복음화에 대한 중요 발판이 되는 곳이라 할 수 있습니다. 한편 빌립보는 바울이 복음을 전하면서 많은 고난을 당하기도 하지만, 많은 시련 가운데서도 빌립보 교인들이 바울을 열심히 도왔던 것으로도 유명한 곳입니다.

2. 이제는 참된 신앙이란 무엇인가를 생각해 보길 원합니다.

1)첫째로 신앙은 변화입니다. 1년 신앙 생활했으면 1년 믿은 만큼 ‘변화’되어야 합니다. 2년 신앙생활 했으면 2년 믿은 만큼 변화되어야 합니다. 변화되지 않으면 진정한 생명력 있는 신앙이 아닙니다.

2)둘째로 신앙은 ‘성장’입니다. 변화가 긍정적이어야 합니다. 부정적 변화도 있기 때문이죠. 고로 변화되긴 하되 성장하고 성숙해야 합니다. 첫 믿음은 마치 어린아이가 갓 태어난 것과 같습니다. 태어났으면 성장하고 성숙해야 합니다. 계속 어린아이 같은 믿음을 가지고 살면 안 됩니다.

3)셋째로 신앙은 ‘생활’입니다. 믿음은 생활 속에서 나타나야 하며 생활 속에서 증거 되어야 합니다. 교회에서는 “주여 주 뜻대로!”라고 하다가, 집에 가면 “아니지, 그럴 수만은 없지, 내 뜻대로!”하고 살면 안 됩니다.
오늘 본문에서 사도 바울은 자기가 너무나 사랑하고 아끼고 자랑스럽게 여기던 빌립보 성도들에게 8가지 동사를 사용하여 ‘이런 것을 하라’고 명령합니다. 그리고 끝으로 3가지의 성도로서의 생활방식에 대한 권면을 합니다. 오늘은 이 부분에 대해여 자세히 살펴보며 교훈을 얻기로 합니다.

본론)

가) 8가지 명령형의 동사
우리가 성경을 읽으면서 본문을 잘 이해하려면 본문에 나타난 동사들을 찾아보면 될 때가 많습니다. 특히 2-9절에 명령형 동사들을 찾아보면 8가지가 있습니다.

1) “품으라(2절)”는 명령입니다.

바울 사도는 빌립보 성도들에게 ‘같은 마음을 품으라’고 했습니다. 같은 마음은 한 마음입니다. 부흥하는 교회는 같은 마음으로 한마음이 되는 교회입니다. 몇 명 되지도 않은 교회에서 서로 마음이 갈라져 분쟁하고 싸우는 교회는 부흥되지 않습니다.

2)“도우라(3절)”는 명령입니다.

누구를 도우라는 것입니까? 복음의 동역자들을 도우라는 것입니다. 복음을 위해 수고하는 분들의 수고를 위해 함께 동역자가 되어 도와야 합니다.

3) “기뻐하라(4절)”는 명령입니다.

어디서 기뻐하고 언제 기뻐해야 합니까? 성경은 주안에서 기뻐하고 항상 기뻐하라고 했습니다. 신앙인은 예수님의 은혜 안에서 항상 기뻐하고 감사하며 살아야 합니다.

4) “알게 하라(5절)”는 동사입니다.

무엇을 알게 해야 합니까? 성경은 너희의 관용을 다른 사람들에게 알게 하라고 했습니다. 관용이란 밖으로는 남을 세워주는 것이며, 안으로는 힘들고 어려워도 견디고 용서하는 것입니다. 여러분도 다른 사람을 세워주고 남을 관대히 용서하며 살아가야 합니다.

5)“염려하지 말라(6절)”는 명령형 동사입니다.

무엇을 염려하지 말라는 것입니까? 성경은 아무것도 염려하지 말라고 했습니다. 성경에는 염려하지 말라는 말과 근심하지 말라는 단어가 365번 나옵니다. 왜 365번 기록되었겠습니까? 1년이 365일이기에 1년 내내, 매일 매일 염려하지 말라는 것이라 합니다. 아무것도 염려하지 말고 그 대신 기도와 간구로 감사함으로 하나님께 기도하면 됩니다.

6)그래서 그 다음은“아뢰라(6절)”입니다.

아뢴다는 것은 기도와 간구로, 감사함으로 구하는 것입니다. 염려하는 대신 기도하면 하나님이 우리의 모든 필요를 채워 주실 것이라 했습니다.

7)“생각하라(8절)”는 명령입니다.

무엇을 생각해야 합니까? 언제나 참된 것을 생각하고, 경건한 것을 생각하고, 언제나 하나님의 기준에서 옳은 것이 무엇인지 생각하고, 언제나 정결하고, 언제나 사랑할만하고, 언제나 칭찬할만한 것들을, 결과 유무를 신경쓰지 말고, 늘 생각하라고 했습니다. 그렇습니다. 언제나 참된 것과, 경건한 것과, 언제나 옳은 것만 생각해야 합니다.

8) “행하라(9절)”는 단어입니다.

무엇을 행하라는 것입니까? 바울 사도에게 배우고, 듣고, 받고, 본 바 대로 행하라고 했습니다. 바울은 빌립보 성도들에게 무엇을 가르쳤습니까? 하나님의 말씀을 가르치고 들려주었습니다.

 

신앙생활은 성경의 말씀대로 살고 명령들을 지키면서 사는 삶입니다. 한국의 CCC 대학생 선교회 교재에선 이것을 ‘신앙의 수레바퀴’라고 했습니다.  CCC 10단계 성경공과의 1과를 보면 ……신앙의 수레바퀴의 4개의 바퀴살과 축이 나옵니다.

 

1)첫째로 신앙의 중심축은 1절에 먼저 ‘주 안에 ’서 있어야 합니다. 이것을 주재권이라고 합니다.

2)두 번째는 성도의 생활의 기준은 ‘하나님의 말씀’ 입니다. 모든 삶의 기준이 하나님의 말씀이기에 말씀을 기준 삼아야 합니다.

 3)세 번째는 아무것도 염려하지 말고 우리의 구할 것을 기쁨으로 간구하고 ‘기도하는 것’입니다. 우리의 모든 쓸 것을 하나님이 응답주실 것이라 했습니다.

4)마지막으로, 수평적으로는 우리의 도움이 필요한 사람들을 ‘도와주라 ’고 했습니다. 교회생활은 누군가를 도우면 착한 행실이 드러납니다.  16절에 바울이 데살로니가에 있을 때에도 너희가 나의 필요를 두어번 보내주었다고 했습니다. 기근에 시달리고 어려워진 예루살렘 교회를 위해 힘에 넘치도록 도왔다고도 했습니다. 이 모든 것의 중심축은 그리스도안에 있는 것입니다.

나)성도의 생활 방식(10-20)
오늘 읽은 본문 다음 부분에서는 바울은 성도의 생활방식을 네 가지로 말씀하고 있습니다.

 

1) 자족하는 삶(11절)입니다.

몇 백만 불짜리 대저택에 살면서도 자족할 줄 모르는 사람이 있는가 하면, 한 달에 1,000불 도 안 되는 아파트에 살아도 자족하는 사람은 감사하면서 살아갑니다.

세계에서 행복지수가 가장 높은 나라들은 미국이나, 일본이 아닙니다. 오히려 가난하고 소득이 낮은 아프리카의 소말리아, 르완다 나라들입니다. 인도에서는 아이들이 가난하여 신발도 신지 못하고 맨발로 다니는 경우가 많습니다. 맨발로 다니다가 방안에 들어옵니다. 그런데도 행복지수가 높다고 합니다.

2) 적응에 능통한 삶(12-13절)입니다.

바울은 비천에 처할 줄로 풍부에 처할 줄로 알았다고 했습니다. 바울은 어디에 가든지 적응에 뛰어난 사람이었습니다. 사랑하는 성도 여러분! 우리는 범사에 감사해야 합니다. 어디서 살든 장점을 보고 살아야 합니다. 사계절이 있는 나라에 사는 것도 감사하지만 더운 나라에 살면 난방비 많이 안 들어가니 감사하고 추운 나라에 살면 땀 흘리지 않고 사니 감사해야 합니다. 단점만 보면, 매일 여름만 있는 나라에 살면 매일마다 더워서 못 견딜 것이요, 매일 추운 나라에 살면 매일 추워 벌벌 떨며 난방비 걱정에 쩔쩔매게 되 스트레스를 엄청 받으며 살아야 할 것입니다. 사람에 대해서도 장점 보기를 힘써야 합니다. 장점을 잘 살려주고 장점을 잘 개발하도록 격려해주고 칭찬해 주면 단점은 점점 줄어들 줄 믿습니다. 피할 수 없으면 즐기라 했습니다. 성도의 생활은 어디를 가든지 적응하는 삶입니다.

3) 의지하는 삶(13절)입니다.

우리는 힘들 때 의지할 것들을 찾습니다. 힘들면 앉기도 하고 눕기도 하고 기대기도 합니다.그리고 누군가를 통해 새 힘을 얻기도 합니다.  그럼 성도된 우리는 누구를 의지해야 합니까? 하나님을 의지하고 예수님을 의지해야 합니다. 신앙은 그 자체가 하나님을 의지하는 것, 신뢰하는 것, 곧 trust의 삶입니다. 의지하는 것은 부끄러운 일이 아닙니다. 의지하는 삶이 과장되지 않은 솔직한 삶입니다.

4) 나누는 삶(16절)입니다.

하나님이 우리에게 주시는 넉넉한 축복들은 대개는 이웃에게 나누라고 주신 것입니다. 우리는 어렵고 불우한 형제 자매들을 위해 나눠야 합니다. 그리고 선교를 위해, 전도를 위해 나누어야 합니다. 기쁜 마음 자원하는 마음으로 나누면 하나님은 기억하시고 또 되갚아 주십니다.

잠언 19:17 절에선 “가난한 자를 불쌍히 여기는 것은 여호와께 꾸어 드리는 것이니 그의 선행을 그에게 갚아 주시리라”고 했습니다.

지난 화요일 뉴스(2월 13일)에 보니, 미국인은 은퇴할 때, 평균 9억원을 가지고 은퇴하고, 한국인은 평균 5,500만원을 가지고 은퇴한다고 했습니다. 그 의미는 겉으로는 미국이 상당히 잘 사는 나라라는 의미이기도 하지만, 그만큼 나누지 않고 사는 나라라는 의미도 있습니다. 노숙자 차고 넘치는 이유기 무엇입니까? 공권력이 도전 받는 의미가 무엇입니까? 공산세력이나 테레 단체들이 증가하는 이유가 무엇입니까? 부유층이 더 세금을 내고 서민층에게는 세금을 더 낮추고, 더 도와줘야 한다는 의미이기도 합니다.  세계 평화와 정의를 위해 투자하고 더 힘써야 한다는 의미이기도 합니다.

다)축복과 인사

 결론부는 23절은 축복과 인사로 마칩니다. (예수님의 은혜가 있을지어다!)

사도 바울은 23절에서 “주 예수 그리스도의 은혜가 너희 심령에 있을지어다.”라고 했습니다. 우리는 하나님의 은혜 없이는 단 하루도 온전히 살 수가 없습니다. 성도된 삶의 마침표가 바로 은혜라고 할 수 있습니다.

 

결론)

하나님의 은혜는 어떠한 은혜입니까?

1)성경에서 은혜는 히브리어의 ‘헷세드’라는 말인데, 성도들에게 있어, 과거적으로는 영혼 구원의 기쁨을 말합니다. 십자가의 보혈로 영원한 저주와 지옥의 형벌에서 구원받은 것은 하나님의 은혜입니다.

2)둘째는 현재의 은혜입니다. 현재의 은혜는 점점 거룩한 삶을 살게 하시는 ‘성화의 삶’을 살아감으로써 구별되어지는 기쁨입니다. 악하고 부정한 세상과 구별되어 정결하고 참되게 사는 것, 현재의 필요를 채워 주시는 은혜입니다.

3)세 번째는 미래의 은혜입니다. 미래의 은혜는 장차 하나님 나라의 영광에 참여하게 될 그 기쁨을 말합니다. 이러한 은혜가 성도된 여러분들과 영원히 함께 할 것을 믿으시길 바랍니다

Introduction)

1. Today’s text is the conclusion at the end of Apostle Paul’s letter to the church he pioneered in the Philippi area. Philippi is introduced as ‘the first city of Macedonia and a Roman colony’ (Acts 16:12). This is the northern part of Greece and was one of the important passageways connecting Europe and Asia, and is strategically considered the best city in the Macedonia region. Therefore, the spread of the gospel and the planting of churches in Philippi, the first gateway to the Macedonia region, can be said to be the first starting point for evangelization in Greece and an important stepping stone for evangelization in Europe. Meanwhile, Philippi is a place where Paul suffered a lot while preaching the gospel, but it is also famous for the Philippian believers who worked hard to help Paul even in the midst of many trials.

2. Now I want to think about what true faith is.

1) First, faith is change. If you have lived a life of faith for one year, you must be ‘changed’ as much as you have believed for a year. If you have practiced faith for two years, you must change as much as you have believed for two years. If it does not change, it is not a truly vital faith.

2) Second, faith is ‘growth.’ Change must be positive. Because there are also negative changes. Therefore, we must change, but we must also grow and mature. The first faith is like a child being born. Once you are born, you must grow and mature. We cannot continue to live with childlike faith.

3) Thirdly, faith is ‘life’. Faith must appear in life and be evidenced in life. You can't go to church and say, "Lord, do as you will!", but then go home and say, "No, that can't be done. Do as I want!"

In today’s text, Apostle Paul uses eight verbs to command the Philippian believers, whom he loved, cherished, and were proud of, to ‘do these things.’ And finally, he gives three advices on how to live a saintly life. Today we will take a closer look at this part and learn a lesson.

 

Main subject)

A) 8 types of imperative verbs

When we read the Bible, we often need to look up the verbs that appear in the text to better understand it. In particular, if you look for imperative verbs in verses 2-9, there are eight types.

1) “Embrace it (verse 2)” is a command.

Apostle Paul told the Philippian believers to ‘have the same mind.’ The same heart is one heart. A revival church is a church that comes together with the same heart. A church with only a few people who are divided and fight with each other will not be revived.

2) “Help (verse 3)” is a command.

Who are you asking to help? The idea is to help fellow workers of the gospel. We must become co-workers and help those who work hard for the gospel.

3) “Rejoice (verse 4)” is a command.

Where should we rejoice and when should we rejoice? The Bible tells us to rejoice in the Lord and rejoice always. Believers must always live with joy and gratitude in the grace of Jesus.

4) “Let them know (verse 5)” is a verb.

What do you need to know? The Bible tells us to let others know about your generosity. Tolerance means building others up on the outside, and enduring and forgiving even when things are difficult on the inside. You too must live by building up others and generously forgiving others.

5) “Do not worry (verse 6)” is an imperative verb.

What do you mean not to worry? The Bible says not to worry about anything. The words “do not worry” and “do not be troubled” appear 365 times in the Bible. Why was it recorded 365 times? They say that since there are 365 days in a year, you should not worry every day of the year. Don't worry about anything, but instead pray to God with gratitude through prayer and supplication.

6) So, the next thing is “Let us know (verse 6).”

To ask means to ask with prayer, supplication, and thanksgiving. It is said that if we pray instead of worrying, God will provide all our needs.

7) “Think about it (verse 8)” is a command.

What should I think about? He told us to always think about what is true, think about godly things, always think about what is right according to God's standards, always think about things that are pure, always loveable, and praiseworthy, without worrying about the results. That's right. You should always think about what is true, what is godly, and what is right.

8) The word is “Do (verse 9).”

What are you telling us to do? He told Apostle Paul to learn, hear, receive, and act according to what he saw. What did Paul teach the Philippian believers? He taught and preached the word of God.

 

A life of faith is a life of living according to the words of the Bible and keeping its commands. In the Korean CCC College Student Missionary Textbook, this is called the ‘Wheel of Faith.’ If you look at lesson 1 of the CCC 10-step Bible lesson... … The four spokes and axle of the wheel of faith appear.

 

1) First, the central axis of faith must first stand ‘in the Lord’ in verse 1. This is called sovereignty.

2) Second, the standard for a believer’s life is the ‘Word of God.’ Since the standard of all life is the Word of God, we must use the Word as the standard.

  3) The third thing is not to worry about anything, but to ask for our requests with joy and ‘pray.’ It is said that God will answer all our needs.

4) Lastly, horizontally he told us to ‘help’ those who need our help. In church life, good deeds are revealed when you help someone. In verse 16, Paul said that even when he was in Thessalonica, you helped me a few times when I was in need. He also said that he helped the Jerusalem church, which was suffering from famine and was in difficult times. The central axis of all this is in Christ.

B) Lifestyle of believers (10-20)

In the next part of the text we read today, Paul talks about four ways of living as believers.

 

1) It is a self-sufficient life (verse 11).

There are people who do not know how to be self-sufficient even if they live in a multi-million dollar mansion, while people who are self-sufficient even if they live in an apartment that costs less than $1,000 a month live with gratitude.

The countries with the highest happiness index in the world are not the United States or Japan. Rather, it is the poor and low-income African countries of Somalia and Rwanda. In India, children are poor and often cannot wear shoes and walk around barefoot. Walk barefoot and enter the room. However, the happiness index is said to be high.

 

2) A life that is adept at adapting (verses 12-13).

Paul said that he knew he would either be brought low or he would be rich. Paul was a person who was excellent at adapting wherever he went. Dear believers! We must be thankful in all things. No matter where you live, you must live looking at the advantages. I am grateful to live in a country with four seasons, but if I live in a hot country, I should be thankful that I don't have to spend a lot of money on heating, and if I live in a cold country, I should be thankful that I can live without sweating. If you only look at the downside, if you live in a country where it's summer every day, you'll be unbearable because it's hot every day, and if you live in a country where it's cold every day, you'll shiver from the cold every day and worry about heating bills, so you'll have to live under a lot of stress. We must also strive to see the good in people. I believe that if you take advantage of your strengths and encourage and praise them to develop them, your weaknesses will gradually decrease. If you can't avoid it, enjoy it. The life of a believer is a life of adapting to wherever you go.

 

3) It is a life of dependence (verse 13).

We look for things to rely on when times are tough. When I'm tired, I sit, lie down, or lean forward. And I sometimes gain new strength from someone else. So who should we as believers rely on? We must rely on God and rely on Jesus. Faith itself is a life of reliance and trust in God. There is no shame in relying. A life of dependence is an honest life without exaggeration.

 

4) A shared life (verse 16).

The abundant blessings that God gives us are usually given to us to share with our neighbors. We must share for our brothers and sisters who are in need and are less fortunate. And we must share for missions and evangelism. If you share with a happy and willing heart, God will remember and reward you.

Proverbs 19:17 says, “He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will repay him for his good deeds.”

According to the news last Tuesday (February 13th), Americans retired with an average of 900 million won, and Koreans retired with an average of 55 million won. On the surface, this means that the United States is a country that lives fairly well, but it also means that it is a country that lives without division. Why are there so many homeless people? What is the meaning of public authority being challenged? Why are communist forces and terrorist groups increasing? It also means that the wealthy should pay more taxes and lower taxes and provide more help to the working class. It also means that we must invest and work harder for world peace and justice.

c) Blessings and greetings

  Verse 23 concludes with blessings and greetings. (God bless you!)

Apostle Paul said in verse 23, “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your souls.” We cannot live a single day fully without the grace of God. It can be said that the end of a saintly life is grace.

What kind of grace is God’s grace?

1) In the Bible, grace is the Hebrew word ‘hesed’, and for believers, it historically refers to the joy of soul salvation. It is God's grace that we are saved from eternal damnation and the punishment of hell through the blood of the cross.

2) The second is present grace. The grace of the present is the joy that is distinguished by living a ‘life of sanctification’ that allows us to live an increasingly holy life. It is a grace that satisfies the present needs of living a pure and true life, distinguished from the evil and unclean world.

3) The third is future grace. Future grace refers to the joy of participating in the glory of the kingdom of God in the future. I hope you believe that this grace will be with you forever.
